“There’s only one way I can track him,” Paine said as he gazed between his mate and Kendrick.

So far Dylan hadn’t taken this whole shifter thing really well. He was going to flip his lid when he saw Paine shift, but there was nothing Paine could do about that. They had to find Omar.

“Do what you have to,” Kendrick said as the three of them stood in the backyard. “We’ve searched the entire house, and he’s nowhere to be found.”

“He has to be out here,” Dylan insisted. “He likes adventures. But these woods are so big. He’s probably lost.”

His mate looked as though he were going to be sick. There was worry in the man’s green eyes as his gaze darted toward the woods. Dylan stood there twisting his hands and shifting from foot to foot, worrying his lower lip.

Paine framed Dylan’s face with his hands. “I’ll get him back for you, kitten. Don’t worry.”

“I’m not your kitten,” Dylan said as he pulled away. He lowered his voice. They were far enough away from Kendrick that the man wouldn’t hear his nephew. “I can’t believe I slept with you. I hope your craziness isn’t contagious.”

“I’m not going to get offended,” Paine said as he dropped his hands away from Dylan’s face. “I’ve been called much worse.” It just stung that it was his mate who was bad-mouthing him. He eyed Kendrick, who was pretending interest in the clouds overhead before he spoke once again to Dylan. “Don’t freak out, okay?”

“Now what are you going to do?” Dylan asked as he stopped fidgeting and gazed at Paine warily.

Paine didn’t answer the man. Instead, he started undressing.

Dylan’s eyes grew wide. He took a few steps back, nearly falling over his own feet. “We are not about to have sex!”

His mate blushed when a small chuckle came from Kendrick’s direction. Paine had no problem stripping in front of others. He wasn’t ashamed of his body. He was a shifter, and modesty had never been his thing. He hoped that once he proved to his mate that he was a cheetah shifter, Dylan would accept him.

But what if he didn’t? What if Dylan refused to have anything to do with him? The guy hadn’t exactly been welcoming in the idea that others besides humans existed. It was a chance he had to take. Omar was out there somewhere, and he had to find the young human.

Paine divested the last of his clothing and sent up a prayer before he shifted. Dylan stood there with his mouth hanging open before his eyes rolled to the back of his head and he fainted.

Kendrick turned and stared at his nephew’s prone body on the grass. “Oh, my. I guess the shock was too much.” He glanced at Paine. “You go ahead and track Omar. I’ll keep an eye on Dylan.”

Paine hesitated. He didn’t want to leave his mate like this. He wanted Dylan to wake up and accept what he was, but he knew Kendrick was right.
